How Can I Find Motivation to Study?
Can studying ever be enjoyable? 4 ways to drag yourself to the desk.
“You might ask, do I really become productive when I’m happy? Yes, higher engagement comes from happiness, and it increases your engagement to finish your task.”
Every single night, my desire to study burns. When I finish a day with nothing done, despair creeps into my body. I used to ask myself, what did you do today? You had almost 17 hours to go and sit at your desk and open your essay document.
The same situation was happening too often, so I needed a promise to bring myself to the desk. What about using the time right before I go to bed, when I often wish to 'do' something?
Following this line of thinking, I figured out a clever idea. In the evening, I now write everything I have to do in my planner for the NEXT day.
It goes like this: Make a list of what to do and write a time to do each of the assignments. Then, leave it there for tomorrow. That's it! It is very easy to make since we're not doing the work 'today'. You don't even need any special planner or anything else. Just bring a pen and note with your awesome plan for tomorrow. Planning shouldn’t be boring, so you can try using colorful planners or drawing something you like on the cover.
If you don’t have that much time to save your work until tomorrow, then stand up after reading this article. That’s right. You. You don’t have to do anything more than stand up and jump a couple of times in place to refresh your mood. It helps your brain to produce dopamine, which gives you senses of “pleasure, satisfaction and motivation.”
You might ask, do I really become productive when I’m happy? Yes, higher engagement comes from happiness, and it increases your engagement to finish your task. So, before you start typing on the computer, jump to gain some energy.
In case you are not a fan of jumping, you can try recording what you’ve studied every day. Posting it to social media to show how much you have done can motivate you to get up and hold a pen, since people want to display things worth being proud of.
To take more pictures of your planner—the evidence you’ve studied a lot, you might get inspired from it, which is great for you and that A+ you’ve been dreaming of in science class. But, don’t dwell on it too much if you get camera shy. This method is a form of reverse psychology: totally meant for yourself and not meant to flaunt to others.
Find the best way to drag yourself to your work, and now go get ‘em!
